Suspected con artist had four wives

A 45-year-old Shanghai man lied about his identity to con four women, not only by marrying them all but also having children with three of them.

He allegedly posed as working in senior posts including being a director of HSBC bank, a partner in a yacht club and even said he was related to senior Chinese leaders, which helped him defraud others of about 1.5 million yuan ($ 241,800).

He also defrauded his wives, one of whom lost 2.6 million yuan before discovering she had been deceived.

During his trial, the man made a confession using mixed Chinese and English aroused waves of mocks at his use of pretentious, literary expressions.
