People were shocked by the Shanghai metro crash that injured near 300 people on Sept 27.

Apologies and promises to improve the situation are far from enough. What people want are effective measures that can guarantee public transportation safety.

The transportation authorities should draw lessons from these accidents and take effective actions to improve the safety of the commuters. To win back the public's trust, the authorities should check safety thoroughly to eliminate potential risks.
