A set of posters that carry the tagline You are not fighting alone and feature 37 newly recruited police officers from Huangyan branch of city public security bureau in Taizhou city, Zhejiang province, have hit the Internet recently.

The aim of the posters is to inspire comrades to keep working positively, local news portal Zhengjiang online reported on June 12.

Ancient tombs found in East China

Archaeologists have discovered more than 100 Eastern Han Dynasty (24-220 AD) tombs in East China's Jiangsu province.

The graves in Pizhou city are mostly two-meters long and a meter wide. They lie under a large pool and were found when the pool was drained, local researcher Ma Yongqiang said on Saturday. Such a large cluster of Han tombs is a rare discovery. The tombs were buried only 20 to 30 centimeters beneath the earth and about 24 have been plundered.

Elderly man sets up tent in high-rise

An 80-year-old man has erected a tent in the hallway of the first floor of a high-rise building in Chengdu, Sichuan province, because he said the air was too stuffy in his grandson's 20th floor apartment, according to the Chengdu Economic Daily.

The man, who is from a rural area of Sichuan, said he found the air in his grandson's overcrowded apartment problematic because he suffers from a lung disease.

Bomb threat lands man 2 years in prison

A man in Beijing has been sentenced to two years in prison for threatening to bomb a local police station, Beijing Times reported on Friday.

After the 50-year-old man, surnamed Sun, injured a man, surnamed Lyu, on March 11, 2013, the police station ordered him to pay Lyu 5,000 yuan ($805). Dissatisfied with the order, Sun called the city's government hotline on Sept 5, 2013, and threatened to bomb the police station.

Home punishment leads to amputation

A six-year-old boy in Hebei province had his arms amputated after his stepmother hung him up by his limbs for three hours, CCTV reported on Friday.

The boy's stepmother had beaten him at home and hung him by his arms to further punish him.

After the boy was sent to a hospital, doctors found that parts of his arms had gone putrid and performed an amputation. The stepmother has been detained, and the case is under investigation.

Teacher smashes record for juggling football

A university teacher in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, broke a world record by continuously juggling a football 42,650 times, smashing the previous record of 15,000, Modern Express reported on Friday.

China University of Mining and Technology announced on Thursday that Zhou Daohua, a 51-year-old sports teacher at the college, took 6 hours and 23 minutes on March 2 to perform the feat, which was recorded on video. His record was confirmed by the World Record Association on May 8.

Firms to receive loans for hiring graduates

Provincial government in Guizhou said small enterprises can apply for a soft loan of up to 2 million yuan ($320,000) when they recruit college graduates, Guizhou City Daily reported on Friday.

The measure is one in a series of moves by the province to encourage the hiring of graduates. There are currently 105,000 new graduates in the province this year, a historical high.
