A woman surnamed Zhang in Hebei province has been detained on suspicion of intentional assault and child abuse, Shijiazhuang Daily reported Friday.

A single mom in Baoding city of Hebei province sent her 10-year-old daughter to Zhang in Beijing on Feb 18, as Zhang allegedly taught Chinese ancient civilization at a Beijing school, and could later send the girl to a university and then find her a job.

On May 26, Zhang called the mom to bring her daughter home, as the girl was suffering from chickenpox. The mom arrived Zhang's place, the so called "school" in Shunyi district of Beijing on May 27, and found the girl covered with bruises and scars. A hospital diagnosis showed the girl had fractures to her fingers, feet and collarbones. She is reported to be still suffering from severe headaches from time to time.

The mom later found a message Zhang posted on the social networking platform Wechat, which featured photos of children, including her daughter, with the words "please donate clothes to these children who were forgotten by the society."Trending across China

Doctored sex photos of officials put man in jail

A farmer in Loudi city of Hunan province who doctored pornographic pictures using Photoshop to extort officials was sentenced to 12 years in prison and given a 500,000 yuan fine, Hunan news website rednet.cn reported Friday.

The suspect,surnamed Li, used the software to splice pornographic photos with pictures of officials that he found online, and sent the printed pictures in letters to officials in Hunan, Guangdong and Hubei provinces. He had received 450,200 yuan out of a total of 4.24 million yuan he attempted to extort, and police found letters that had not been sent, seeking to extort another 4.2 million. He illegally bought 34 fake IDs and opened 23 bank accounts to receive the extortion money.Trending across China

Fight comes before cash

A couple in Wuhan, Hubei province threw cash out of their 10-story apartment window during a fight for unidentified reasons. When community workers went to their door to give back the 1,900 yuan they collected, the couple refused, as they said the fight hadn't end yet and they were not in a mood to deal with the money, Wuhan Morning Post reported Saturday.

Wife drops divorce to care for husband

The wife of a man who had his legs amputated after a traffic accident in Wuhan, Hubei province has decided to drop her plans to divorce the man in order to care for him, Modern Express reported on Friday. The couple married in 2009 and the wife, surnamed Li, filed for divorce two months ago. A few days after the court accepted the filing, her husband, surnamed Zhang, was injured. Li then decided to drop the lawsuit in order to comfort and look after Zhang. The court supported the move.

Car runs red light 102 times in six months

A car in Shenzhen reportedly ran a red light 102 times through the first six months of the year, Xinhua News Agency reported on Friday. The city's traffic police said the car with the Guangdong license plate B3LF42 will be fined more than 100,000 yuan ($16,100) and 612 points of the driver's license will be imposed.

Man fakes mother's death to fund lover

A man in the capital of Haikou faked his mother's death to recoup her funeral expenses and give the money to his lover, Nanguo Metropolis Daily reported on Friday. Surnamed Li, the man took 43,123 yuan ($6,940) in funeral expenses on April 20 after issuing a death certificate for his mother, who is still alive. The court has yet to deliver its verdict after a hearing.
