Qingdao: The largest homemade Ocean Computing & System Simulation Terrace (OCSST) came on line in Qingdao, Shandong province on October 28.

The OCSST is expected to promote the development of marine numerical simulation technology, investigation on climate change and the national environmental forecasting system of marine security, said Guan Huashi, an academician from the Ocean University of China.

It is also designed to help protect the marine environment, optimize ocean engineering design, as well as construct the digital ocean. A great boost will be given to the scientific exploitation of resources and the construction of the Shandong Peninsula Blue Economy Zone, he added.

The Terrace will become a world first-class research center after it is completed, uplifting national scientific innovative capacity, Guan said.
