Experts and scholars proposed strategies for advancing cross-Strait relations and achieving national reunification under new circumstances at a symposium held at Tsinghua University in Beijing on Thursday.

The event, known as the Tsinghua Cross-Strait Forum, focused on the evolving dynamics of cross-Strait relations and brought together more than 140 experts and scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Qiu Kaiming, vice-president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, said in his speech that cross-Strait relations and the process of national reunification have always progressed through tackling new challenges and resolving emerging issues, continuously overcoming obstacles and making steady advances.

Amid the current complex situation, he emphasized the importance of uniting compatriots across the Strait, standing firmly on the right side of history, and upholding the pride and dignity of being Chinese.

Wu Yongping, director of the Institute for Taiwan Studies at Tsinghua University, noted that the so-called Taiwan independence movement is merely a transient episode in the long course of history of the Chinese nation.

"Healthy cross-Strait relations can promote national rejuvenation," Wu said. "No matter how cross-Strait relations evolve, the steps toward national rejuvenation will not stop, and national rejuvenation will ultimately lead to reunification."

Participants held in-depth discussions on topics such as new trends in cross-Strait political and economic relations, people-to-people exchanges, and the external environment affecting cross-Strait ties.

Experts agreed that public opinion in Taiwan has shown positive shifts, with support for peace and exchanges across the Strait increasingly becoming the mainstream view. They also observed that cross-Strait economic relations are evolving from traditional industrial complementarity toward joint industrial development.
