This year sees the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations. Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay his first visit to the UN headquarters in New York from Sept 26 to 28 and attend a series of summits commemorating the anniversary.

The UN, established on Oct 24, 1945, was one of the major achievements of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, carrying the expectation of people on the planet to build a new world in peace and beauty.

The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression made major contribution to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, winning China a historic position in the UN. China, a founding member of the UN, was the first to sign the UN Charter and became one of five permanent members of the UN Security Council.

During the past 70 years, the UN has achieved great success in maintaining international peace and security and promoting common development and made unique contribution to human progress. The purposes and principles of the UN Charter, including sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful settlement of disputes and international cooperation, laid the foundation for the contemporary international order.

China is a staunch supporter for UN's multilateral cooperation, who has persistently acted according to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and advocated peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefits.

China has worked to help resolve international and regional hotspots, expanded its involvement in UN peace-keeping operations, firmly defended international rule of law and the interests of developing countries and rendered full support for international development cooperation.

China has been an indispensable participant and contributor for the efforts to address various global challenges.

At the forthcoming UN summits, President Xi will comprehensively elaborate on China's views and positions on the international order and paradigm, and on the global development and governance. He will focus on fostering new international relations of win-win cooperation, and development centered on fairness, openness, comprehensiveness and innovation.

He will also put forward concrete ways to build a community of common destiny for humanity and announce China's major measures in preserving world peace, promoting common development and supporting the UN and multilateralism.

He will also discuss with leaders from all over the world ways to achieve the Post-2015 Development Agenda. President Xi will offer China's answer to development issues in various fields when he presides over conferences such as the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment and the High-level Roundtable on South-South Cooperation.

A series of policy propositions to be raised by President Xi will center on peace and development - the themes of our times and the future destiny of the shared home of mankind. They will build on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and transcend traditional theories of international relations. They will embody China's major contribution to the future directions of the world and the UN and to the cause of human progress.

In a world facing complex and new challenges, the UN has to shoulder more arduous tasks and responsibilities.

At the moment of the 70th anniversary of the organization, countries around the world should reiterate their commitment to world peace and common development, defend the international order and system with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter at the core, foster a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation and jointly advance the cause of world peace and development.

China stands ready to work with all other countries to contribute to a better future for all.
