China confirms senior diplomat's visit to DPRK

BEIJING - A senior Chinese diplomat is visiting the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the foreign ministry confirmed Wednesday.

China's Assistant Foreign Minister, Hu Zhengyue, is leading a delegation to the DPRK as a guest of the DPRK's Foreign Ministry, spokeswoman Jiang Yu said after being asked to comment on media reports.

"It is a normal exchange between the two foreign ministries," Jiang said.

Jiang added Hu will meet with senior DPRK diplomats and exchange views on topics like bilateral ties.
