APEC CEO Summit in Singapore sees record turnout of leaders

Updated: 2009-11-04 16:46 SINGAPORE: The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in Singapore will see the largest number of participants in attendance since its inception in 1996, the organizing committee said on Wednesday. To be held from Nov. 12 to 14, the event will focus on the agenda of "Rebuilding the Global Economy: Crisis and Opportunity." Held for the first time in Singapore, the event brings together the world's top minds in business and government to address the opportunities in the current economic landscape, identify the direction of future trends and assess areas of collaboration.
Industry headliners will also address the delegates, including President of the World Bank Robert Zoellick, US Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and Chairman of Board of Supervisors of the China Investment Corporation Jin Liqun. Together, they will address the present economic crisis and discuss ways to fashion a stronger post-crisis financial and economic architecture. For the first time, the CEO Summit will also enable the voice of the wider community to be heard. It has launched an online discussion forum to kick-start public debate on the hot topics that will be discussed at the summit. A delegate survey has also been conducted to find out the most pressing concerns summit delegates have on the global financial crisis. In addition, the summit proceedings will also be distilled for the APEC leaders ahead of their meetings, all in a bid to ensure that views from every sector are presented to the highest level of government and business. All in, a total of 1,500 participants will be involved in this summit to lead the change on the global stage. |
