Fanning claimed his second World Surfing Championship in 2009, adding to the same title he won in 2007. Renowned not only for his incredible surfing, Fanning is also admired for his comeback from a complete hamstring tear in 2004, which required extensive surgery. Mick was also nominated for the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year in 2008, following his World Championship year of 2007.
