Unprecedented reform to put Chongqing on fast track

Data from Chongqing's automobile sales market?in January indicate that out of every five vehicles sold, one is a new energy vehicle (NEV). "The growth is astonishing. Four years ago, only five percent of cars sold were an NEV," said Chen Xueqin, a senior official of the Chongqing Automobile Business Associations.
The figures are a result of unprecedented reforms in automobile manufacturing. "We must seize this opportunity to promote the high-quality development of the auto industry through the utilization of new energies and intelligentization," said Zhu Huarong, an NPC member and the president of Changan Motor, during the two sessions this year.
Zhu also announced the firm's long-term goal of selling 3 million Changan cars by 2025, of which about 35 percent are NEVs. By 2030, the figure should reach 60 percent.
Chongqing has been consistently producing new high-end NEV models over the past year, including AITO M5 and Avatr. In addition, Mustang Mach-E – a new Ford production model – will also be manufactured in Chongqing.
In the commercial vehicle field, cars produced by Chongqing also stand out. Electric heavy trunks of SAIC Hongyan, for example, has been commercialized in Hebei, Shanxi, Henan, Guizhou, and other places of China, applicable in scenarios such as ports, mines, power plants, and steel factories.
Qu Yunchao, an industrial insider, pointed out that over the recent years, the individual consumption has account for over 70 percent of the NEV market, and the purchasing rate of high-end NEV production models has surged to 25 percent from less than 5 percent.
The Chongqing government has been working harder to introduce mature NEV producers along with their supporting enterprises and research institutes.
