Chengdu wins prize for logistics service

On Nov 3, Chengdu won the 2011 China Logistics Industry City at the 7th China International Logistics Festival in East China's Ningbo city.
Ge Honglin, mayor and deputy secretary of the Municipal Party Committee of Chengdu, accepted the award on behalf of the city. Chengdu was the only city to win the 'Boosting City development with Logistics Service' award.
Ge delivered a keynote speech at the 2011 Logistics Global Forum ? City Mayor Forum, a core activity of the festival, in the theme of promoting city competitiveness within the modern logistics service industry.
Chengdu, a logistics service pilot city planned by the State Council, recognized the unique value and role of logistics to city development, Ge said.
Over the years, Chengdu city has strived to improve logistics service efficiency, actively integrate logistics resources and key elements, vigorously promote logistics system and infrastructures construction, accelerate building a first-class logistics center, and elevate city overall competitiveness.
Priority has been given to four aspects to improve logistics and facilitate city development.
Firstly, strengthen leadership, improve management systems, intensify policy support, and keep innovating government management mechanism for the logistics industry.
Secondly, make a scientific plan for the development of the logistics industry, make a sound overall and transportation plan for logistics service and harmonize these efforts with other plans.
Thirdly, construct a first-class logistics center in the country, build China’s fourth largest international air service hub, the largest inland international railway logistics hub and most vital inland road logistics hub, construct a logistics park home for the largest number of inland logistics companies, and build up the best inland port service system.
Fourthly, accelerate the pace of constructing urban logistics systems, concentrate on developing urban express delivery logistics services starting with the urban distribution project, and promote e-commerce logistics development.
As a next move, Chengdu will improve logistics hub construction. It will speed up the construction of a regional logistics center in west China that boasts the best investment environment, most convenient transportation channels, best facilities, largest coverage, and home to the largest number of logistics companies.
In preparation for the hub, the city will improve the following aspects.
First, develop regional logistics service, accelerate the development of transportation, and promote construction of regional logistics hub elements. It will also direct logistics companies to interact and integrate resources across regions and gradually establish a new pattern of integrated logistics development in the region.
Second, develop international logistics service, accelerate construction of an infrastructure network for multinational transportation, attract transnational logistics companies to settle down in Chengdu, elevate the city’s logistics international service, and build the city into an internationally influential logistics hub.
Third, develop industry-based logistics service, and expedite developing industrial base-oriented logistics services for the processing and manufacturing sectors, trade and circulation sectors, modern agriculture, and conventions and exhibitions.
Fourth, develop urban logistics service oriented to the circulation companies and socialized distribution for consumers, and build up an urban and rural distribution system based in Chengdu, covers Chengdu urban areas, and serves the whole province.
Fifth, develop a smart logistics service. Taking the Web of Things technologies as the support and the cloud computation service as the core, the city plans to construct a smart logistics core technology system and improve logistics service efficiency and levels.
Sixth, develop green logistics service and promote green transportation, storage and packaging, for low-carbon development.
