Fujian gets tougher on medicine supervision

Fuzhou, FUJIAN - The Measures for the supervision and administration of Fujian medicine and medical devices circulation is promulgated at a news conference here on Wednesday. The first regulations will be officially put into effect on Feb 1, 2011.

"This is the first local government regulations on medicine and medical devices circulation. It will not only contribute to the standardization of medicine and medical devices markets but also to the maintenance of people’s health and the development of pharmaceutical industry," said Li Deren，the head of the Food and Drug Administration.

Li indicates that the Measures expands the scope of medicine and medical devices circulation and clearly defines the responsibilities of those related government departments as well.

"After the new regulations come on stage, we will further reinforce the supervision of illegal advertisements, especially the illegal propaganda lectures towards the mid-aged and elderly people. Currently, about five or six provinces have launched regulations in this field, but regulations combined medicine and medical devices is a precedent in Fujian province," said, Zhang Binghui, the deputy director of the Food and Drug Administration.
