Dongfeng Motor's Sales Exceed 1 Million Vehicles

Dongfeng Motor Corp sold the second-largest number of vehicles among domestic automobile manufacturers in May, according to the latest statistics. The 207,764 vehicles reflected an increase of 37.23% from May last year.

Dongfeng Motor's plan for the year 2010 was sales of 290 billion yuan with 2.22 million vehicles. The first five months of this year witnessed its steady effort to achieve that goal, when it produced 1,062,600 vehicles and sold 1,066,700, including 779,000 passenger vehicles and 287,700 commercial vehicles. The number of cars sold showed a year-on-year increase of 63.82%, and is the third largest compared with those of other domestic competitors in the same period. The success, as indicated by the numbers, was made possible by the noticeable progress of its subsidiaries.

In the first five months of this year, Dongfeng Motor Co Ltd sold 537,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 66.72%. Among its divisions, Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co reached sales of 272,600 cars, a year-on-year increase of 51.18%, while the figures for Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co and Dongfeng Automobile Co Ltd are 141,900, 125.04%, and 122,600, 55.61%. What’s more, Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co has invested 5 billion yuan into a new plant with a capacity of over 800,000 vehicles a year, which will come online in 2012 and become the largest automobile manufacturing plant in South China. Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co has also spent about 1 billion yuan on a new plant with design capacity of 80,000 vehicles a year.

During the same time, Dongfeng Peugeot Citro?n Automobile Co Ltd sold 150,100 cars, including 92,703 in the Citro?n series and 57, 405 in the Peugeot series, and raked in 15.08 billion yuan. The number of cars sold was 57% higher than the same period last year, and the sales revenue was 127.6% more. Citroen C5 and Peugeot 408 have been two popular brands in the market.

In the five months, sales of Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co Ltd reached 104,100 cars, a year-on-year increase of 41.88%. The company launched the project of a second plant, whose design capacity reaches 240,000 cars, which will bump up the total capacity of the company to 480,000 cars.

Sales of Dongfeng Yueda Kia Automobile Co Ltd from January to May hit 135,800 cars, a year- on- year increase of 94.19%, greatly surpasses the average figure of the domestic auto industry. Its one millionth car will come off the production line in late June.

Dongfeng Motor Corporation Passenger Vehicle Co has achieved sales of 33,000 cars since listed 10 months ago, taking its steady entrance into the market with the brand Aeolus. The company’s project of the engine plant will be launched in June. As a result, Aeolus will better satisfy consumer’s needs with more kinds of products, including engines and vehicle platforms of C/ D/ B levels.

Dongfeng Yu’an Automobile Co Ltd sold a total of 102,600 cars in the first five months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 46.25%. With the second plant in Shiyan city starting to operate in May and the second plant in Chongqing city coming online in the fourth quarter, about 300,000 more Dongfeng Xiaokang compacts are expected to come out, thus the output of Dongfeng Yu’an will increase to 500,000 compacts a year. In addition, the company’s aim is to sell 1 million compacts in the year 2015.
