Honeywell and Chang'an join up for micro-turbo engine production

CHONGQING: One of the world's Top 500 companies, Honeywell, will work together with Chinese vehicle manufacturer Chang'an Automobile based in Chongqing to jointly develop a micro-turbocharged engine.

According to the companies' Memorandums of Understanding, the two will develop small-displacement car turbocharger technology to make automobile gasoline engines, which will save 10 to 15 per cent in fuel consumption for Chang'an Automobile's compact cars.

The mini-turbo will also help vehicle manufacturers lower production costs, as the green technology could cut the engine size by 30 to 50 per cent.

"This move will enable Honeywell to capitalize on the Chinese government's call for engine downsizing, and for more fuel efficient and environmentally-friendly engines," said Shane Tedjarati, Honeywell’s vice president and CEO of China and India.

"The cooperation between Honeywell and Chang'an Automobile is just the first of many," Tedjarati noted in Chongqing while attending the Mayor's Economic Advisory Panel annual meeting.

Tedjarati said he is pleased to see that Honeywell's technologies are contributing to the development of the pillar industries and sustainable growth of Chongqing, and he hopes to see more cooperation with these local enterprises.
