Fuzhou Shangri-La Hotel to participate in "Earth Hour"

Updated: 2009-03-27 14:20 The Fuzhou Shangri-La Hotel will join the upcoming "Earth Hour” lights-out activity on March 28 from 8:30 to 9:30 P.M. to help fight global warming. The hotel will turn off lighting in various areas, including the crystal chandelier in its lobby. Hotel corridors, staff room region non-essential lighting, as well as the hotel's surrounding lighting will also be extinguished for one hour. "We will do all we can to fight against global warming," said Eddie Chua, Fuzhou Shangri-La Hotel general manager. “The hotel will launch its participation in the Earth Hour campaign in the form of electronic screens or posters in the lobby, restaurant entrances and other public areas,”Chua added. At the same time, the hotel will release letters to encourage guests to participate by suggesting that they turn off their room lights and air-conditioning in support of the campaign and energy conservation. This year marks the first year that China will participate in Earth Hour, which is being aimed at billions of people around the world. Cai explains the hotel’s role in the important campaign: “As a company actively advocating environmental protection, we are very pleased to be able to participate in this global environmental protection activity. We actively promote the activity in Fuzhou not only for our guests, but also business partners, suppliers, colleagues and families.” So far, 18 other Shangri-La Hotels from China’s mainland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Japan and India have announced their part in joining the global activity. Fuzhou Shangri-La Hotel, which bears ISO14001 environmental protection certification, has always been committed to environmental protection and management. In addition to taking part in events like Earth Hour, the hotel aims to promote the implementation of environmentally responsible practices through the cooperation of its shareholders, while continuously improving its environmental practices to reduce harmful impact on the environment.
