It is necessary to improve human morality and ethics from an early age. Chinese education system is famous for its exam-oriented teaching style. These books and relevant lessons create an environment to help children know the meaning and importance of love, forgiveness and generosity and develop a sense of responsibility for themselves, their families and the environment.

Chinese schools used to have similar books teaching students to behave themselves but the results were inadequate because the books were edited as behavioral codes and disciplines and put children off reading them.

Chinese traditional culture is a rich source of moral education. However, it remains a challenge for teachers, who are used to modern textbooks, to get familiar with the ancient books soon and find the proper way to convey the message of the old stories to today’s children. More importantly, teachers should combine the lessons with practical problems from today’s society to give life to the old stories and awaken the traditional “genes” in Chinese children’s blood.
