The Kunming National Hi-Tech Industries Development Zone has been working on green economy development since the beginning of 2014. In the first half of this year, five enterprises in the zone adopted cleaner production, intended to minimize waste and emissions and maximize product output.

According to the economic development bureau at the zone, the administrative committee has been encouraging enterprises in the zone to save energy to reduce costs. Enterprises in the zone are analyzing their productive process to seek new techniques, in order to utilize materials and energy more efficiently.

Since 2012, the Kunming Hi-Tech Zone began financially supporting enterprises to adopt cleaner production. Enterprises that improve energy-consumption and waste-reduction can receive special funds from the zone.

In addition, the administration committee set up an incentive system to commend and reward enterprises that adopt cleaner production. Meanwhile, it provides enterprises with communication opportunities to gain some experience from well-developed "green" companies.

So far, Yunnan CY Group, Kunming Yunnei Power Co, Uni-President Co, and Yunnan Tobacco Leaf Co are leading the cleaner production and green economy development in the Kunming Hi-Tech Zone.
