Visitors flocked to Yunnan province during the National Day holiday for one of China’s newest and most unique events—a rock music festival held in the rainforest of Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture.

The festival was held at a tourist district in Xishuangbanna, a remote corner of Yunnan province perched on the Vietnam border where the local Dai people still make up the majority of the population.

Named Gaozhuangxishuangjing, or "nine tower and twelve stockade village" in the local Tai Lue language, the district is still partly under construction but has already become a must-see tourist destination.

The district hosted several events during the holiday alongside each other, with the most popular being the Lemon Music Season, Tuborg Music Tour and National Youth Cultural and Creative Market.

The crowds packing out the Lemon Music Season area were treated to a vibrant, eclectic set of acts, with famous local singers performing popular Yunnan folk songs, a renowned drum team bashing out an eardrum-assaulting rock set, and a closing set from a local band that fused local and international rock into a style they called "rainforest big bang".

"The Lemon Music Season is very interesting. The bands have brought characteristic music to the evening," said one lady surnamed Zhou, who had traveled from Sichuan province to see the show. She said she and her two girlfriends all had a really fun night.

On the other side of the stage, visitors seeking refuge from the rock festival could browse around 600 stands selling traditional local handicrafts.

"I have bought bookmarks and picture frames, which are unique, handmade and inexpensive products, as souvenirs and gifts for my friends", said another visitor surnamed Luo.
