Dongping county, under the jurisdiction of Tai'an city, lies in the southwest of East China's Shandong province. It lies to the east of the Yellow River, to the west of Mount Tai, to the north of Qufu, hometown of Confucius and Mencius, and borders upon the south of the provincial capital, Jinan. The county has the population of 780,000, with a total area of 1343 square kilometers, among which the mountain area, the plain and the lake occupy 1/3 respectively.

The Dongping county has a long history. This rich land has fostered many talents. Dongping boasts a recorded history of some 3000 years, and was once called Dongyuan. From Western Zhou Dynasty (11th century BC - 771BC) to Qing Dynasty (1644 -1911), Dongping county has been designated with different administrative divisions, including the level of the kingdom and prefecture, and has always been a crucial town in North China and the regional political, economic and cultural center.

Dongping county boasts ancient relics everywhere with beautiful mountains and lakes. The Dongping Lake is famed as “little Dongting Lake”, also the important pivot of Water Diversion Project (East Route). Early in 1985, the county was listed in the scenic resorts at the provincial level.

The Lashan Mountain, on the west bank of the lake, renowned as “little summit of Mount Tai”, is a national forest park, as well as one of the three national Taoist holy places. TheBaifo Mountain, on the east bank of the lake, is the only place in China which integrates the culture of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. The grotto statue on the mountain is the historical relic mainly protected by the nation. The history and culture tour and landscape ecological tour with the distinctive feature of “Religious Mountain, beautiful water as well as the afterglow of Water Margin” have been brought into the grand Mount Tai tourism circle.

Dongping county, abundant in resources, has numerous products. The minerals, whose reserves has already been proved up, are mainly iron, coal, gold, marble, Muyu Stone, granite, limestone and mica. Among these minerals, the reserves of iron is 824 million tons, occupying 1/3 of the provincial reserves. Agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fish culture of the county are flourishing. It is also the county of national grain production base and the seed-breeding base of small tailed sheep as well as the county of freshwater fish-farming base. Besides, it is sponsored the titles of Chinese Sweet Potato Starch Hometown and Chinese Walnut Hometown respectively by the UN Potatoes Research Center and Chinese National Ministry of Forestry.

Dongping county has convenient transportation and superior investment environment. The county lies between Beijing-Shanghai Railway line, Beijing-Jiulong Railway line. The industrial parks in the county are at the provincial level, with the total planning area of 35 square kilometers, the central area of which has been set up 8 square kilometers. The infrastructure including water, electricity, gas and heating installation, is well-equipped.
