Hosted by the Supreme People's Court (SPC) of China, the Forum on the Rule of Law in the Digital Economy was held on May 26 both online and offline in Beijing and Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province. Representatives from 15 countries, regions and international organizations attended the forum via video link, discussing topics such as the application and regulation of digital technology in the judicial field, the judicial response to legal issues related to the digital economy, and the innovation and reform of litigation models in the digital era. The forum was highly praised by attendees who were impressed by China's achievements in promoting judicial digitization and smart court development.

"We have learned a lot from this forum", said the President of the Supreme Court of Benin Victor Dassi Adossou. Deeming digitized judicial services as an important means to reduce cost and enhance the efficiency of case handling, Benin has been striving to promote digitization of the judicial system by boosting infrastructure construction and setting up a department of digital affairs, according to Adossou. Benin is looking forward to close cooperation with China’s courts on digital technology, he added. "We attach great importance to platforms like this forum where exchanges can help us better respond to challenges", he said.

The President of the Supreme People's Court of Vietnam Nguyen Hoa Binh said that this forum served as a key platform for information sharing and experience exchanges among all attending parties. He was impressed with the efficiency of Chinese courts in handling cases with the application of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchains, facial recognition and big data. He said that he looked forward to more bilateral cooperation with Chinese courts in areas such as the construction of digital courts, the improvement of online litigation regulations and talent fostering.

Judge of the Singapore High Court Aedit Abdullah noted that China issued judicial regulations on online litigation, mediation and operation. “These documents can fully promote online judicial system and ensure fair rulings", he said.

Justice Victor Momotov, the president of Russia's Council of Judges, acknowledged China's judicial efforts in securing the development of the digital economy, which has made China a world leader in judicial digitization. "New technology always brings new risks and challenges which require our joint efforts to respond to", he said, adding that he hopes to take the forum as an opportunity to strengthen global communication, cooperation and mutual learning in judicial areas.
