This Wutai Mountain site sits in Shizui town, 2 kilometers away from the exit of the Xinzhou-Fuping Highway that connects Shanxi and Hebei province in North China. It was built in Kangxi Emperor’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).

In 1683, the emperor paid an inspection tour to Wutai and shot a cruel tiger in the area on his way back. After that, the place was renamed Shehuchuan (or "shooting tiger") village. An imperial residence was built in the area for successor emperors of the Qing Dynasty to visit Mount Wutai.

During the War against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), the temple became the headquarter of the Jinchaji military command in North China.

The main building of the imperial residence was destroyed during the "cultural revolution" (1966-76), and the existing site covers an area of 15,000 square meters with three halls, a monument and a white marble bridge.

Although Mount Wutai has been added to UNESCO's World Heritage List by the World Heritage Committee in 2009, it has few tourism resources of imperial culture. The county government attaches much importance on restoring the imperial residence of Kangxi and welcomes investors from all walks of life for the restoration project.
