Following three years of preparation, the Institutes of Biomedical Sciences has been established at Shanxi University (SXU) on May 8.

Wu Changxin, dean of the Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, expressed his gratitude to staff members for their efforts in establishing the institution.

Wu was invited to take charge of establishing the institution in 2014 as a senior researcher at Cambridge University and brings the experience of working at an elite institution to Shanxi University. He has overseen the development plan and will ensure that the research institute exemplifies modern practices and international standards.

The founding of the institution is a milestone for SXU and will boost its pedigree in the life sciences and biomedicine research community.

"Biomedical research is of great value and helps to solve tough problems in medicine, develop medicine, and serve society" said Jia Suotang, president of SXU.

Jia hopes the Institutes of Biomedical Sciences will develop into an open platform where professionals can share advanced technology and achievements in research.

Li Rongshan, director of Shanxi Provincial People's Hospital, was appointed as the visiting professor during the opening ceremony. This will see cooperation between the hospital and the institution strengthened.
