Shanxi has focused on diverse coal-based development and settled on 76 coal-based science and technology key projects, including coal bed gas, coal power, coking, coal chemical, coal machine, new coal-based material and carbon-rich agriculture industrial chains, according to the provincial coal industry association on Oct 8.
The 76 projects will open bids to scientific research institutions and enterprises in China and abroad. It's the first time that Shanxi will conduct scientific and technological resources allocation in the global market. At present, there are a total of 189 tenderers, 490 cooperating units, 179 universities and 64 research institutes. Tenderers cover large well-known domestic enterprises; first-class colleges, universities and research institutes; as well as large corporations in the province. The Shanxi government has decided to establish a science and technology innovation city to upgrade the province’s science and technology innovation abilities and promote the development of industry transformation. The new city sits at the junction of Taiyuan and Yuci and covers an area of 1,963.1 mu (130.9 hectares). It involves a total investment of 16.96 billion yuan ($2.77 billion) and has introduced 29 projects covering green coal mining, coal mine safety and intelligence, coal chemicals, coal-based new material, coal machine and equipment, electric power, and public science and technology services. The city will introduce and cultivate first-class research and development institutions, scientific research projects, and science and technology enterprises. It will also build a platform for the province to carry out the strategy of innovation-driven development. Five coal groups, as well as Shanxi Coal International Energy Group and Jinneng Group, are planning to move in.
The Shanxi coal industry association has established a coal science and information technology work committee, which will arrange technical exchanges and help tackle difficult science and technology problems in the 76 projects, such as coal mining, gas control, flood prevention and control, coal equipment manufacturing, coal chemical, and coalbed methane development and utilization technology.
