China's tallest building, the Shanghai Tower, which went into trial operation, on April 27, quickly became one of the most popular tourist destinations during the May Day holiday, April 30 - May 2, with the basement alone attracting a large number of visitors.

The basement covers a 1,760-square-meter area and has a special skyscraper exhibition, open 9am - 5pm every day, at 50 yuan ($7.7) for an adult ticket and 30 yuan for the elderly and children. The basement saw nearly 400 visitors the first day of the May Day holiday, or about 60 percent more than the previous day when the floor opened.

Other attractions were the 60-meter-long Wall of Honor for 500 corporations and 4,021 individuals, with their names engraved, and a copy of a famous statue of Johann Strauss, where many people enjoyed taking photos. Many more people enquired about ticket prices for the tower itself and said they will wait to come until the observation deck on the 118th floor is open to the public.
