The Shanghai International New Energy Car Cooperation Conference, themed "new technology and international cooperation of electric cars", kicked off in the Jiading Industrial Zone of Shanghai on Nov 27.

E-car makers from home and abroad, including Germany, the UK, Sweden, Austria and Japan; representatives from government departments, industrial associations and chambers; and experts attended the conference and discussed how to realize the revolutionary development of the auto industry in the field of environment protection.

Fei Xiaomei, deputy director of Jiading district, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. According to her, the district has been devoted to promoting the development of e-cars by establishing test drive centers and e-car operation data platforms, building charge facilities and attracting new energy-related companies. She also voiced her hope that the conference can facilitate technical and commercial exchange among participants.

Participants from the city's development and reform commission, well-known automobile companies, supporting companies and research institutes also gave speeches at the conference. They agreed that governments, auto makers, energy suppliers and venture investment companies should make joint efforts to develop the e-car industry. As auto manufacturing and consuming countries, the United States, Germany, Japan and China should enhance cooperation and exchange and promote global transformation of the auto industry.

The conference also displayed advanced e-car and new energy technologies and the latest products featuring e-car components and power switch and charge station construction.

As an organizer of the event, Jiading Industrial Zone has excelled in the auto and auto components industry. It has attracted a group of well-known auto companies such as Volvo, Fiat, Volkswagen, ZF, SAIC, Autoliv and Mann+Hummel. The 27 auto companies above a designated size in the zone have reached a total output value of 40.9 billion yuan ($6.7 billion) in the first three quarters this year, with year-on-year growth of 11.8 percent. Meanwhile, a string of leading enterprises engaged in the research and development of new-energy cars have also settled in the zone.
