The Shenzhen Marine Administration has established a joint mechanism with other departments to tighten aquatic inspections to ensure Universiade safety.

The administration will establish five mobile inspection stations at Chiwan Bay, Dapeng Bay, Daya Bay and Fanshi water way in cooperation with public security, transport and fishery authorities to inspect vessels, the administration said June 27.

An inspection system would be established on three levels with random checks of vessels entering Shenzhen and Huizhou ports in July.

During Aug. 1-9 and Aug. 24-31, the authorities will impose second-level inspections for unlicensed vessels and boats and high-speed ferries between Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao.

During the Games between Aug. 10 and 23, all vessels including container ships entering Shenzhen and Huizhou waters will be checked.

There are an average of 550,000 vessels entering the jurisdiction area of the Shenzhen marine administration each year.

The lane for 300,000-ton oil tankers entering Huizhou Port is only 2.5 nautical miles from Qixing Bay, the Universiade sailing venue.
