The long-awaited public reopening of the Hunan Museum, in Changsha took place on Nov 29 after five years of renovation.

For the first three months of its new operation, the museum will be trialing different methods of operation and best practice to ensure the best possible experience for visitors.

Opening hours will run from 9am to 5pm every Tuesday to Sunday. The museum will be closed on Mondays (except statutory holidays) and on Chinese New Year's Eve, which falls on Feb 15, 2018.

Visitors can admire two free permanent exhibitions of the Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs in Changsha and the Hunanese-Exhibition of Hunan History and Culture. The free exhibitions will give visitors an insight into funerary items serving to fully embody everyday life and funeral customs during the Han Dynasty (220-206 BC) as well as throughout Hunan history.

In order to visit the national first-level museum, people should provide their passport or other valid identity documents to the venue's ticket office.

Online booking is also available in addition to making reservations using Hunan Museum's official App or WeChat account (ID: hunanmuseum).

Children under 12 years old need be accompanied by their parents unless they are part of a school group.

During the trial operation, the maximum number of visitors per day is capped 15,000. It is highly recommended that visitors take public transport to the museum due to limited amount of parking spaces available.
