The Changsha County Ecological Environment Protection Committee has targeted regional water pollution control and water environmental governance in the Liuyang River basin area as its major focus in 2016.

According to a plenary meeting held by the committee last week, the county will carry out four key projects, including the connection of drain outlets and sewage pipes networks, reconstruction and extension of sewage treatment in urban areas, construction of water system preservation, and development of separated pipes for rain and wastewater, to improve the water environment quality.

Meanwhile, six special policies will be implemented, including clearing away garbage on the riverbank and flotage on the water, control of cultivation pollution, investigating major industrial pollution sources, greening along the river banks and regulating the wastewater treatment plants in related townships. All the control measures are expected to guarantee the quality of the source of drinking water in the area.
