This temple, in Changsha's Langli area, according to legend, goes back to the Jin Dynasty (265-420), when a devout Taoist practitioner named Tao Dan arranged to have himself and his nephew, Tao Xuan, mummifies after they died. And a temple was built on Xiangshan peak to pay respect to them and was maintained over the years by various emperors.
Taoists call them the Immortal Tao Gong and visit the temple to worship them. There are also temple fairs on their birthdays – January 13 and August 17 on the Chinese lunar calendar.
The temple is heavy with the smell of incense and resonates with the sound of drums and gongs. People from all over visit and join in the festivities, helping the local economy and bringing the temple a lot of attention. In 1986, the temple was named a Changsha cultural relic.
Changsha seeks to revive porcelain production
In recent years, the local government has sought to revive the region's long tradition in porcelain making and boost local industry with the cultural influence of ancient Tongguan kilns, which have a history of 1,200 years.
