Parit Baru Coal Fired Power Plant construction commences

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Sep 5 in Bengkayang district, West Kalimantan province, Indonesia, to celebrate the commencement of construction of Parit Baru Coal Fired Power Plant.
Around 100 people attended the ceremony, including representatives of Indonesia State Power Corporation (owner of the project), officials of the West Kalimantan provincial government and the Singkawang municipal government, CGGC representatives from the Parit Baru Coal Fired Power Plant Project Department, and people from PRABA Company (the joint venture partner for the project).
The project is the first thermal power EPC project ever undertaken by CGGC in Indonesia, said the responsible person of CGGC in his address to the ceremony. The CGGC people will do their utmost to build it into a high-quality and highly efficient model project, a milestone project in the country, to benefit the local people and promote Indonesian economic and social development, he added.
Bagio Riawan, on behalf of the owner, and Christiandy Sanjaya, representing the West Kalimantan provincial government, extended their congratulations on the commencement of construction. They expressed thanks to all parties concerned for their hard work and strong support for the project. They said they are confident that CGGC, with its consistently high construction quality and satisfactory work progress, will surely bring benefits to the Indonesian people and make significant contributions to the country’s economic and social development.
Facing South China Sea in the west and adjacent to the Pontianak-Singkawang provincial highway, the coal fired power plant is located in Bengkayang, a city in the northwest of West Kalimantan province, Indonesia. Occupying a land area of 40 hectares, the project mainly involves design, procurement, construction, commissioning and trial operation of 2?50MW coal-fired generating units. According to the contract, the project will be completed within 33 months.
Indonesia is an archipelago country, where most islands have separate power supply systems instead of being inter-connected through a power grid. As a result, there is a local shortage of power. The present project, when completed, will markedly improve the electricity supply on the West Kalimantan Island and in the meantime, create considerable job opportunities for the local people.
