Tibet is seen as a Holy Land in the eye of bicycle ride lovers. Two bike riding fans of Ruzhou city arrived in Tibet after a 2,200 kilometers journey that took 25 days.
Zhang Yaowu, one of the bike riders, said going to Tibet by bike was a lifelong pursuit for him and his friends. After hearing about bike riders from other parts of the world conquer the Tibetan terrains, Zhang and his friend Wu Hongtao quit their work to begin their adventure.
They set out in the morning of June 6 at Luoyang Railway Station to Chengdu to meet nine other cycling fans. After that, they commenced the arduous and challenging trip to Tibet.
Stepping on their mountain bikes and leaving bustling cities, the cyclist experienced blue sky, white cloud, snow mountains, lakes, primitive forests, and plateau meadows.
They rode on along the No 318 Sichuan-Tibet Highway to the equivalent of climbing one 4,000 meter mountain every two days. They were encouraged by pious pilgrims who crossed mountains and rivers and worshipped on bended knees all the way to Tibet.
In this course, they came into close contact with the mysterious and rustic folk customs of Tibet, as well as the magnificent natural landscapes and long standing history and culture. They realized they had come across great changes in Tibet over the past 60 years under development.
