According to the communique of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which was released on Oct 29, China will uphold the central role that innovation plays in modernizing the country, as well as make self-reliance in science and technology a strategic pillar for national development.

Liang Yan, general manager of Nanning Zhongguancun Scientific and Technological Information Service Co, said that the company will provide strong support for the innovation and development of Nanning and Guangxi by accelerating the construction of innovation demonstration base and science parks.

Ruan Zhiyong, director of the Technology Center of Guangxi Liuzhou Iron and Steel Group, said that the center has provided a broad platform for the development of original technology and the growth of micro-enterprises. "We have also launched a collection of internal technological innovation requirements to efficiently and accurately connect technical project resources, with nearly 100 items having been collected by far," added Ruan.

Wang Dongming, director of the Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Nanning, noted that the overall consideration of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2020-25) and the long-term goals for 2035 at the plenum have drawn a blueprint and pointed out the direction for the bureau to follow, in which it will make good plans for industrial development in the next five years.

The plenary session also mentioned that the country will give more importance to high-level opening-up.

Wu Zhihui, the person in charge of the institutional innovation bureau of the management committee of the Nanning Area of the China (Guangxi) Free Trade Zone, said that the area is making contributions to building a new development pattern with domestic and international mutual promotion, as well as a new higher-level open economic system with powerful services.

Zuo Kongtian, director of the institutional innovation bureau of the management committee of the Qinzhou Port Area of the Guangxi FTZ, said that the area will work hard to transform the spirit of the plenary meeting into a powerful driving force for the development of the FTZ, as well as accelerate the high-level opening up of the area.

"In the future, we will give full play to the function and role of the opening-up cooperation platforms and to deeply integrate into the construction of the Belt and Road," said Nong Fangli, deputy director of the Chongzuo commerce bureau.
