Local newspaper Pingtan Times takes a look back at milestones following the one-year anniversary of the "Pingtan Closure" project on July 15.

"Pingtan Closure" refers to the establishment of an integrated customs supervision and management system covering the entire PCPZ in July, where a slew of qualified businesses and imported cargoes enjoy tax incentives such as exemptions and rebates.

1. Inauguration of “Pingtan Closure” (July 15, 2014)

The implement of “Pingtan Closure” marks Pingtan becoming the largest area in China under special customs supervision.

2. Pilot project of cross-border e-commerce (Nov 5, 2014)

Pingtan launched cross-border e-commerce services on Nov 5, 2014 making it the sixth city on the Chinese mainland to pilot cross-border e-commerce services. On Jan 2 that year, the General Administration of Customs gave Pingtan the green light for the pilot program.

3. Cross-straits cargo transportation (March 24, 2015)

A container liner was launched to handle cargo transportation between Pingtan and Taiwan, a move that opened a new chapter?for Pingtan's port development.

4. Pingtan FTZ becomes operational (April 21, 2015)

A ceremony for the inauguration of the Pingtan Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) was held on April 21, an epochal event that is believed to further open up Pingtan, push for cross-Straits integration and carry out various reforms.

5. No restriction for entry of Taiwan vehicles (May 19, 2015)

Seven sedan cars from Taiwan arrived at a ferry terminal in Pingtan, Fujian province at noon on May 19, marking the normalization of Taiwan vehicles in Fujian. The cars were given the green light in Pingtan after no more than 30 minutes' quarantine and inspection.

6. Quarantine center (June 19, 2015)

The construction of an animal and plant quarantine center officially started in Pingtan on June 19. It is said to be China's first quarantine center with comprehensive treatment of animals and plants.
