Folk dancers from across the Taiwan Straits will gather in Pingtan in August to take part in the first Cross-Straits (Taiwan-Pingtan) Plaza Open Dance Tournament.

Teams from Pingtan county, Fuqing county and Taiwan are invited to the tournament, which kicks off on August 8. The final game is set for August 27. Each team can include five to 30 members aged 8 to 60.

"Plaza dance integrates elements of sports, culture and tourism. Hopefully it can become an annual tradition to attract people from different places," said Wu Yunfang from the organizing committee.
