A market that is under construction in Pingtan and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year will also be open to Taiwan residents and companies, the market management office said on Thursday.

The construction started in May 2012, and about 75 percent of the project has been completed.

Workers are putting the final touches on the fruit wholesale section of the market where all the buildings feature a Minnan (southern Fujian) style with distinctive roofs and red tiles.

Li Dongliang, who is in charge of the project, said that the Fujian Provincial Government has been monitoring the progress and quality and has sent officials to inspect the safety measures.
