Jointly established by State Science and Technology Commission and Xiamen Municipal Government in December 1990, Xiamen Torch High-tech Industrial Development Zone (XTHIDZ, 廈門火炬高新區) was elevated by the State Council in 1991 into a state-level high-tech industrial development zone. It’s one of the three industrial zones of the nation’s Torch Program and comprises a total of 8 industrial parks.

Photo-electricity, electronic information, and power equipment are three pillar industries in XTHIDZ. After over 20 years of development, the zone now has grown into a top power equipment research and production base with an international influence, and it strives to become the largest computer production base and mobile phone R&D base in China. Other featured industries in the zone include software, biochemistry, precision machinery, and new materials. Among them, software is an important sector in XTHIDZ’s information industry and has become a part of the nation’s Torch Program.

With its prime location, talent resource, financial support and good services, Xiamen Torch HIDZ has attracted more than 20 of the global Top 500 enterprises, including ABB, Dell, Panasonic, Toshiba, and Hitachi, and at least 2,000 leading domestic technology companies, such as Lenovo, TPK Holding, and Admiral Overseas.
