Tourists from home and abroad were fascinated by the breathtaking scenery blending snow, sunrise, clouds and rime at Huangshan Mountain, when it cleared up after dozens of hours of snowfall on Wednesday.
It's the best time to view snow at the world famous mountain, a staff member with the scenic area said.
Covered in snow, the mountain turned into a crystal wonderland. The peaks wore a coat of pure white and the sun emerged behind them with a golden glow penetrating the surrounding sea of clouds.
It began to snow at midnight on Monday, and within 20 minutes the mountain was covered in a thick layer of snow. Its depth reached 7 centimeters when it stopped at around 4am on Wednesday, said Yao Yuqing, who had worked for a company on the mountain for roughly 20 years.
"We know from experience that it's the best time to visit the mountain, judging by the snow that is capping the mountain as well as weather conditions over the next few days," said Yao.
Starting on Thursday, a new round of snow will hit the scenic area until at least Sunday, according to the weather forecast. After the snow, it will be sunny and the mountain is expected to wow tourists with spectacular clouds and a rare "Buddha's halo" landscape.
