A large amount of Neolithic potteries were recently unearthed at Yangbao village near Xiaoshankou Ruins, Caocun town, Yongqiao district, Suzhou city. The potteries provide important information in the search for early Neolithic sites in north Anhui.
Many pottery pieces were discovered together inside pits and tombs in an area totaling 200 square meters dating back to the Dawenkou period about 7,000 years ago, said Li Longjun, postgraduate in the department of archaeology in Wuhan University.
One of the three discovered tombs was traced back to the Song Dynasty, (AD 420-479) and two other tombs date back to the Dawenkou period. The soil at the site had even distributions of black, gray and yellow. The fourth, fifth and sixth layers date back to the Dawenkou period also, Li said.
Teachers and students from Wuhan University came and settled at Yangbao village over a month ago after receiving departmental approval.
