China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) is a State-owned enterprise under the direct leadership of the central government. CNNC developed atomic and hydrogen weapons and nuclear-powered submarines, and built the first nuclear power plant in the Chinese mainland. It is the only company in China that owns an integrated nuclear industrial system, a luxury available in only a few countries in the world. CNNC is the main part of China's nuclear science and technology advancement, the core of State nuclear deterrence and the major force of nuclear power development. It has shouldered responsibilities for national security and related economic growth.
