Northeast China's Jilin province is to take steps to strengthen food safety by ensuring the quality of its seeds, according to local media reports.

Jilin province is an important grain base in the country. The sown area of grain in Jilin province ranks eighth in the country, and the total output ranks fifth in the country.

The province has launched a general survey of its agricultural germplasm resources. It is advancing the construction of the Jilin Province Crop Germplasm Resources Protection and Utilization Center, and is starting to build a modern maize and japonica rice germplasm resource bank.

To enhance its innovation capabilities, Jilin has carried out scientific research cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Syngenta Group to promote the industrialization of biological breeding.

The province is currently advancing the construction of both a spring corn breeding center and a national corn seed industry technology innovation center, so as to develop a modern seed industry innovation highland.

In addition, Jilin has stepped up market supervision and severely cracked down on illegal activities such as the manufacture and sale of counterfeit products, and the infringement of branding, which effectively guarantees the safety of spring plowing.
