Stella McCartney launches line for Australia's Target(AFP)Updated: 2007-02-06 15:34 The Target line will include key looks from McCartney's recent collections for her own brand -- albeit at greatly reduced prices -- and has already caused a stir among fashionistas Down Under. "The range isn't launched until March 12 so in terms of consumer reaction we don't know yet," publicist Tamara Jenkins told AFP. "But I think I've been called by every fashion magazine in the country." The daughter of former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney -- who first made her name as the designer for Chloe before branching out on her own in 2001 -- said she was excited about the opportunity to bring her sense of style to Australia. "I wanted the collection for Target to reinterpret all the 'best ofs' and 'must-haves' of Stella McCartney for winter and make my designs more accessible to a wider audience in Australia," she said in a statement. The collection will include jeans, trousers, tailored jackets, dresses, chunky knits, swing coats, blouses, t-shirts and camisoles with pieces costing between 39.99 to 199.99 dollars (31 to 155 US dollars). Target's general manager of women's clothing Larice Lewis said the range would offer customers a "beautiful range of winter essentials from one of the world's leading designers, at an accessible price". McCartney launched her eponymous label in 2001 under the Gucci Group umbrella and is known for dressing her A-list friends such as Kate Moss and Madonna. The British designer launched a collection of sportswear for Adidas in 2004, followed the next year by a wildly popular one-off collection for Swedish retailer H and M. In an interview with Sydney's Daily Telegraph, McCartney said her late mother, animal rights campaigner Linda McCartney, had been an inspiration for her designs. "Mum was a big style icon for me -- her natural sexiness and natural confidence," she said. |
