Netherlands: Black Petes

Across the Netherlands, Christmas celebrations starts early as Dec 5. The Santa Claus of Holland, "St. Nicholas", accompanied by a host of "Black Petes", his companions, will roll into town and send gifts to children, while children will fill their shoes with straw and candy to feed horses. However, there are an increasing number of people opposed to the tradition, arguing that that "Black Petes" are racist.

荷蘭的圣誕慶祝活動(dòng)從12月5日就開始了，荷蘭的圣誕老人會(huì)和同伴“黑彼得”一起到鎮(zhèn)上給孩子們送禮物，而孩子們會(huì)在鞋子里裝滿稻草和糖果來喂馬。不過，現(xiàn)在越來越多人反對(duì)這一傳統(tǒng)，認(rèn)為“黑彼得”有種族主義傾向。
