Hu's trip good for bilateral co-op, South-North dialogue: FM

Chinese President Hu Jintao's state visits to Russia and Kazakhstan and his attendance in Scotland at an informal meeting between leaders of the Group of Eight (G8) and five developing countries are fruitful and of major diplomatic significance, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Friday.
As always, Li said, the just-concluded trip had a packed itinerary -- the president attended more than 50 bilateral and multilateral events in a week's time.
The topics discussed during the visits covered a wide range of issues, including good-neighborly ties and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and major industrialized countries as well as developing nations.
Hu's trip has made a lot of significant achievements, Li said. It successfully consolidated good-neighborly relations and strengthened strategic partnerships.
Noting that China's ties with Russia and Kazakhstan have made strides in recent years, Li said China is now facing fresh historical opportunities to deepen its relations with the two countries.
President Hu and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin signed a joint declaration on the world order in the 21st century, underscoring their resolve to further upgrade their strategic cooperation and their commitment to safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.
In Kazakhstan, Hu held talks with President Nursultan Nazarbayev. The two leaders announced the establishment of a strategic partnership between China and Kazakhstan and vowed to work together to deepen cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
China also inked a series of accords with Russia and Kazakhstanon cooperation and exchanges in energy, finance, transportation and culture, which would add momentum to their practical cooperation, Li said.
Both Russian and Kazakh leaders agreed that Hu's visit has laida solid foundation for the development of the friendly and mutually beneficial relations in the 21st century between China and their countries.
Hu's visit has also strengthened regional cooperation and boosted common development by proposing such specific measures as more favorable terms for export buyer's credit and training specialists for other member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Such proposals signaled China's attention to the exchange and cooperation at various levels in various fields among SCO members, Li said.
At the informal meeting of leaders of five developing countries-- China, Brazil, India, Mexico, South Africa -- and the G8 leaders, President Hu proposed boosting pragmatic cooperation, implementing UN's millennium development goal, establishing a new type of cooperative partnership and deepening the dialogue betweendeveloped and developing countries. These proposals have aroused extensive attention worldwide, Li said.
At a meeting with leaders of the rest four developing countries,Hu voiced his view on strengthening cooperation among developing countries and achieving common development, showing that China is always a defender of the legitimate rights and benefits of the developing countries, said Li.
He called on developed countries to increase their investment and aid to developing countries, reduce the latter's debt and observe the targets and principles enshrined in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol, he said.
