Defending champion Porto moved into the second round of the Champions League on Benni McCarthy's 85th-minute goal for a 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday, ending the unbeaten streak of former coach Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho, who guided Porto to last year's title before moving to England, enjoyed an early lead on Damien Duff's goal, but Ribas Diego tied it in the 60th minute and McCarthy won it with five minutes remaining.

The victory enabled Porto to overtake Paris Saint-Germain for second place in Group H and a spot in the final 16. Chelsea, already assured of advancing, finished atop the group with 13 points despite Mourinho's first loss in 16 Champions League games with Porto and Chelsea.

"I always want to win," Mourinho said. "Whether it's against Porto, Portuguese teams or Chinese teams, I want to win all the time. I'm professional. Nobody likes to lose and we played enough to get a different result tonight."

PSG lost 3-1 at home to last-place CSKA Moscow, who had three goals from Sergei Semak. CSKA was on course to advance until McCarthy's late goal, while the French club dropped from second to last.

Racing to a 4-1 halftime lead, host Arsenal routed Rosenborg 5-1 to finish first in Group E, and German champion Werder Bremen won 2-0 at Valencia thanks to two goals by substitute Nelson Valdez to also reach the second round from Group G.

Nine clubs already had secured places in the round of 16: Italy's Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan; England's Chelsea and Manchester United; Germany's Bayern Munich; French champion Lyon; Dutch club PSV Eindhoven; and Spanish league leader Barcelona.

After four consecutive ties, Jose Antonio Reyes put Arsenal ahead in the third minute. Thierry Henry and Francesc Fabregas added goals five minutes apart to extend the lead to 3-0, and after a fumble by goalkeeper Manuel Almunia led to Rosenborg of Norway's only goal by Erik Hoftun, Robert Pires converted a penalty kick.

"When it came back to 3-1 there was a little moment of worry," coach Arsene Wenger said. "But we always controlled the game and looked dangerous when we won the ball back."

Greek champion Panathinaikos won 4-1 over PSV Eindhoven, but failed to make it because of Arsenal's triumph. American DaMarcus Beasley scored for the Dutch team.

Bremen's 2-0 victory meant the German champion joined Bayern Munich in the last 16, then Valencia forward Miguel Angel Angulo was sent off as tempers flared just before the final whistle.

Coach Claudio Ranieri was unhappy with the performance of Swedish referee Anders Frisk.

"The referee favored them (Bremen) and this makes you nervous. I understand how they cut the referee's head in Rome," Ranieri said in reference to an AS Roma fan hurling an object that hit Frisk on the head during an abandoned Champions League game against Dynamo Kiev in September.

Milan was held 0-0 by Glasgow Celtic, but finished atop Group F, while Shakhtar Donetsk produced the surprise of the evening, a 2-0 victory over Spanish league leader Barcelona with two first-half scores by Nigerian forward Julius Aghahowa.

Another Nigerian striker, Obafemi Martins, scored two as Inter Milan beat last-place Anderlecht 3-0 to finish first in Group G ahead of Bremen.

On Wednesday, nine-time winner Real Madrid has to beat AS Roma in Rome's Olympic Stadium to reach the next round. The game will take place in an empty stadium because UEFA banned fans from Roma's home games after referee Frisk was hit on the head with the object from the stands.

Leader Dynamo Kiev goes to Bayer Leverkusen in the other Group B game.

Four-time winner Liverpool has to beat Group A leader Olympiakos, while second-place Monaco, last season's Champions League runner-up, visits Deportivo de La Coruna, which is already out.

Juventus and Bayern Munich already have qualified from Group C, and Manchester United and Lyon are through from Group D.
