Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will stick to its final nuclear-weapon-free goal and its basic aim towards a peaceful solution through dialogue, a top Party official said Wednesday.

Kim Jong-il, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) made the remarks when he met Chinese President Hu Jintao, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Kim paid an unofficial visit to China between April 19 to 21 at Hu's invitation, said a spokesman with the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Kim, also chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, said his country will continue to display a patient and flexible manner in the six-party talks.

Hu and Kim had an in-depth exchange of views on how to peacefully solve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and agreed to continue jointly pushing forward the six-party talks process.

Both sides reaffirmed the positive results of the Beijing tri-party talks and the two rounds of six-party talks.

Hu stressed that China, as a neighbour of the Korean Peninsula, has been committed to safeguarding peace and stability there, supports a nuclear-weapon-free Korean Peninsula, a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue through dialogue, and upholds that the DPRK's rational concerns should be addressed.

Kim said he values the Chinese party and government's positive stance on and important contributions to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Beijing hosted initial talks with Washington and Pyongyang before the six-party talks. Then the two rounds of six-party talks were held in Beijing respectively in August last year and in February this year.

This is Kim's third informal visit to China since 2000.

The Chinese side is satisfied with the development of friendly and co-operative relations between the two parties and the two countries, Hu said.

This year marks the 55th anniversary of China-DPRK diplomatic relations.

Hu suggested both sides do everything possible to further friendly bilateral ties in all areas.

Agreeing with Hu, Kim said the DPRK will join China to keep and boost close bilateral co-operation.

Hu spoke positively of the DPRK's achievements in recent years. He said the DPRK party and people, under Kim's leadership, have carried forward the spirit of self-reliance and arduous work, overcome many difficulties in the process of building a strong and prosperous country, and continuously made new progresses, with which the Chinese side is sincerely delighted.

Hu reiterated that China supports the DPRK party and people's adherence to its socialist development, the DPRK comrades' active exploration of a development path suited to its own conditions, the independent and peaceful reunification proposed and adhered to by the DPRK side, and the DPRK's efforts to improve the international environment.

During the three-day visit, besides Hu, Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission Jiang Zemin, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao, and other senior leaders also met with Kim.

Jiang said that with the complicated and volatile international situation, frequent, in-depth and frank exchanges between leaders of the two parties and the two countries play an indispensable role in strengthening bilateral co-operation and co-ordination.

Wen said the Chinese side will actively encourage its enterprises to conduct work with the DPRK side.
