China opposes Taiwan authority leader's transit visit to US
( 2001-05-15 20:53 ) (8 ) China firmly opposes any country, including the United States, permitting the Taiwan authority leader to conduct a transit visit under any excuse, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sun Yuxi in Beijing Tuesday. Sun said that the Chinese government has expressed through diplomatic channels its strong resentment with and opposition to the US government permitting such a transit visit by the Taiwan authority leader. China hopes that the United States will act in accordance with the principles enshrined in concerned bilateral documents, and will not interfere in China's internal affairs regarding the Taiwan issue.
