The "red-shirts" were heading to stage a rally at a market in Pathum Thani province, 70 km north to Bangkok to show moral support for the protestors there.

Hundreds of the joint police-army forces blocked the road in Bangkok's Don Mueang area to prevent the protestors from moving further to reach their targeted area.

Shortly before 02:00 pm (local time), the security forces started firing rubber bullets into the sky as they were attempting to retake the Vibhavadi Rangsit Road blocked by the protestors.

By 02:50 pm (local time), sound of rubber bullet firing was still heard and teargas was used by police to disperse protestors.

About 03:05 pm (local time), clash ceased due to the on-going heavy raining.

Two hours later, the protestors retreated to the rally site in central Bangkok.

At least 16 were injured in the clashes, Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit told a press conference.

Ten were admitted to Bhumibhol Hospital and the rest were treated at other hospitals, he said.
