Hon Hai, parent company of Apple supplier Foxconn, announced a pay increase for its Taiwan-based employees, a controversial move as its employees based in the Chinese mainland will not be eligible. The new policy, starting April, concerns an increase of $NT3000 (606 yuan) per month for entry-level jobs that involve a salary of under $NT1.2 million (240,000 yuan) a year. The company's factory workers will thus earn a minimum of 5257 yuan in Taiwan, in contrast to the 3600 yuan monthly pay for the company's Zhengzhou-based workers, Beijing News reported.

Airport incident

Trending across China

Chinese journalists covering the story of the missing Malaysian Airlines jetliner were reportedly involved in an altercation with ground staff at Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Thursday. Reporters representing various Chinese media outlets claimed airport workers hit equipment belonging to their Xinhua News Agency colleagues "for no good reason," and that the staff also insulted them. The reporters had gathered at the airport to try and interview passengers on flight MH 318, from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, which replaces flight MH 370, the flight number of the plane which vanished early Saturday, Beijing News reported.
