`Avatar' continues climb with $68.5M weekend

LOS ANGELES – The sci-fi saga "Avatar" maintained its blockbuster trek with a $68.5 million weekend domestically. The film shot past $1 billion worldwide, becoming only the fifth movie to hit that mark.
The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com are:
